My design career started as an ASID designer in Myrtle Beach, SC, working in furniture showrooms which specialized in condo packages, furniture sales and window treatments. From there, I moved back to the beautiful Sandhills area of North Carolina and opened a design company. For 14 years, I focused on space planning for new homes and custom window treatments.
While working on new construction sites with my clients, I realized there was something about construction that I loved – at that point it was evident that I would pursue my contractors license, which I did! Since 1994, I have been building houses. That year I constructed my first personal home, 2045 heated square feet, that I built three days shy of my three month schedule and $15,000 under budget. From that moment, there was a drive in me to build consistently, efficiently, and to add more substance while reducing the overall costs. I knew it could be done!
I educated myself by working part time in carpet, tile and lighting showrooms which gives me a leg up on my competitors – having relationships in the industry which allow me to buy upgraded products directly at wholesale prices and pass those savings onto my clients.
When I started building, my focus was on higher-end spec houses, which eventually led to many referrals and into the custom home sector. My business is not limited to high-end, large homes but covers everything from luxurious beach homes, log homes, cottages, barns, and investment properties - whether commercial or residential.
I pride myself with establishing a positive working relationship with my clients, not just with being their builder.
